Cambodian Senate President Engages with Russian Ambassador on Bilateral Relations

PHNOM PENH, June 7, 2024 – The President of the Cambodian Senate, Techo Hun Sen, welcomed a visit from the Russian Ambassador to Cambodia, Anatoly Borovik, at the Senate Palace earlier today.

During their discussion, Ambassador Borovik extended congratulations to Cambodia on the orderly execution of the recent Capital, Provincial, City, District, and Khan council elections on May 26, 2024. He remarked on the longstanding friendship and robust partnership between Cambodia and Russia, emphasizing efforts to enhance and broaden their bilateral relations and cooperative endeavors for mutual development.

In return, Hun Sen conveyed his regards to Vladimir Putin on his re-election as the President of the Russian Federation and expressed gratitude for Russia's ongoing support and assistance to Cambodia, particularly following the end of the Khmer Rouge regime.

The Senate President also advocated for the initiation of direct flights between Russia and Cambodia, highlighting Russia's role as a steadfast ally that supports Cambodia through challenges without intervening in its domestic affairs.

Furthermore, the meeting covered various facets of the bilateral relationship, including diplomatic ties, military collaboration, trade, education, and tourism sectors.
